Through the generosity of the Raymond and Bessie Kravis Foundation, Tulsa Opera is proud to offer a broad and diverse number of educational programs. The following list provides an overview our programming. Click on the drop-down tabs for full program descriptions and registration information.
Opera Insights 101 and 202
These FREE workshops held at the beginning of each school year. Each workshop introduces educators to the operas featured in Tulsa Opera’s Season. Educators receive lesson plans and teaching materials for classroom use.
“Get Floored” at the Opera
Educators can purchase season tickets in selected orchestra sections at a special rate.
Literacy Program
Tulsa Opera is pleased to present a new literacy program. This is a multi-media program designed to enhance student reading in conjunction with an introduction to classical music.
Statewide Children’s Opera Tour
Tulsa Opera’s touring production is an interactive program that travels to schools across Oklahoma, Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri. Students will enjoy participating as the chorus and performing with professional opera singers. Curriculum materials and a teaching CD will be sent to teachers to assist in preparing their students. Student Matinee - This performance is for students in grades 4-12 and gives them the opportunity to witness a fully-produced opera production that includes music from a full orchestra and chorus with an audience of their peers. See order form for ticket price.
Tulsa Youth Opera - Founded in 1997, Tulsa Youth Opera (TYO) is a free, auditioned chorus for singers ages 8-18. Each season TYO is a featured component in one or more Tulsa Opera mainstage productions as well as several additional ensemble performances. Tulsa Opera Summer Institute
A two week intensive training program for young singers ages 8-19. Singers are offered classes in ensemble and solo singing, opera, stage movement, costume design, stage craft, makeup and other theatrical arts. For additional information, please contact us.
Tulsa Opera Studio Artist Program
The Tulsa Opera Studio Artist Program is designed to foster and develop the talent of emerging opera singers. Singers are mentored on vocal interpretation, style, language and acting, as well as the business essentials of resume preparation, selecting the audition arias which highlight each singer’s strengths and best audition practices. Student Rush Tickets
A limited number of rush tickets for Tulsa Opera mainstage performances may be purchased on the day of each performance by current, full-time students who show their valid ID to the Box Office staff in the lobby of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Rush tickets go on sale two hours before curtain.
Pre-performance Opera Talks
Learn more about the operas you’ll see at informal talks hosted by Tulsa Opera artistic staff members one hour before curtain at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center in the Westby Pavilion.
Opera Insights
The Guild of Tulsa Opera continues this popular series of wine and cheese lectures led by local opera experts. Dates vary. For a complete list of Guild events please visit their website.
